You Want a Pizza Me?
This piece is a self-portrait executed on the cover of a Domino’s Pizza box. My dramatically illuminated face and expression of awe seem to reflect my internal feelings when receiving Domino’s pizza. Upon reading the title, however, my face becomes a personification of the pizza itself, showing shock at being objectified and divided into pieces. Sketched lightly in charcoal and highlighted with white acrylic paint, the details of the face are obscured by the bold proclamations in red behind it. The fact that the background was premade and not designed by me subtly parallels the convenience of ordering delivery, in which the process of cooking a pizza or driving to Domino’s is entirely eliminated.
